Yes. To be considered for the MAPSIR program, you must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in any subject.

Our candidates come from a variety of backgrounds. An applicant can be a graduate of humanities and social sciences as well as or other specialties. Students enrolled in the program have undergraduate degrees in in journalism, economics, jurisprudence, and foreign languages.
What documents should I include in my application package?
-A duly completed online application form (https://admissions.nu.edu.kz)
-Three confidential letters of recommendation
-Notarized copy of Bachelor’s or other degree diplomas if available, OR notarized copy (-ies) of official transcript alone when the degree diploma has not yet been received

What is the required minimum score for TOEFL or IELTS?
For IELTS, a minimum score of 7.0 (with sub-scores not lower than 6.0) is required. For TOEFL, the accepted minimum score is 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (internet-based test, with a minimum 21 in each section). Conditional acceptance may be granted to candidates with IELTS scores of 6.5 as long as they meet the minimum score requirement of 7.0 in a test retake by the end of the first semester of enrollment. However, due to the highly competitive nature of the program, the chances of receiving a conditional offer are very low.
Is TOEFL / IELTS required if my undergraduate or prior graduate programs were taught in English?
Candidates who obtained a Bachelor’s or a prior Master’s degree or equivalent from a foreign educational institution where English is the primary language of instruction are exempted from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.
What if I do not have the GRE score?
This is not a requirement. Having a GRE score helps us in screening the applications.
What should I write in the essay question?
You should write a thoughtful answer. Be precise, avoid vagueness, see a big picture and think critically.
And how should I write the personal essay?
You should clearly explain why you would like to study political science and international relations and why you would like to study these subjects at NU. The more specific you are, the better.
What is a confidential recommendation letter?
Confidential means that you choose not to see the letter. The Graduate Admissions Committee cannot show the letter to you. The recommender cannot show the letter to you and has to send this letter directly in a sealed envelope to the Admissions Department (see address below) or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org from his or her corporate email account.
Whom should I ask for recommendation letters?
The best recommenders are those who know you well and can provide an overall evaluation of your ability to succeed in graduate-level studies: your professors (political scientists are preferred) who have known you for at least one year, job or internship supervisors (who have graduate degrees) or professional colleagues (who have graduate degrees). Letters from family members, friends or political figures are not accepted.
I have submitted the complete application package. Does this mean that I will be admitted to the MAPSIR program?
No. It only means that the Graduate Admissions Committee will consider your application. Submitting a complete application package does not guarantee admission to a Nazarbayev University program. If successful, you will be invited for a short 20-minute interview on campus or via Skype in May 2017. Based on the results of the interview, the Graduate Admissions Committee will make a decision whether or not to recommend the applicant for admission. All applicants will be notified of the admission decision by early July 2017.
