SSRES (Summer School in Russian and Eurasian Studies) at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan is an intensive academic program that offers students the chance to immerse themselves in the Russian language and to experience Kazakh language and culture in the heart of Eurasia.
SSRES 2017 Schedule:
May 26 - Students arrive to Astana
May 27-28 - Proficiency testing, course placement. Cultural program starts
May 29 - Classes start
July 18 - Last day of classes
July 19-21 - Final Exams and exit proficiency testing
July 22-23 - Students leave Astana
The students will have an opportunity to take an intensive course in Russian (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, Advanced/Superior) or (NEW in 2017!) Kazakh (Elementary) and take an elective course in Eurasian Studies (taught in English).
In addition to taking an intensive course in Russian, the students will have an opportunity to learn some elementary Kazakh and get an introduction to Kazakh culture by taking a weekly practical course in Kazakh Language and Culture. Students enrolled in the Kazakh course will be able to take a free introductory course in Russian language and culture. These courses are free and included in the program.
Students will also be able to enroll in one elective course in Eurasian Area Studies.
Nazarbayev University is a Western-style university located in Astana, Kazakhstan. The language of instruction at the university is English. Nazarbayev University is a world research leader in Eurasian studies. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nazarbayev University offers an MA in Eurasian Studies, a two-year interdisciplinary area studies program taught in English. It is the first of its kind to be offered in Kazakhstan, and one of only a handful across the Eurasian region. As part of SSRES 2017, students will have an opportunity to enroll in one additional elective course, offered as a part of the Nazarbayev University Summer Term curriculum and open to local and international students.
The students will live on the campus of Nazarbayev University in the new capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.
The program is open to international students from undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as to working professionals.
